Drama Therapy

In 2024 Georgie Williams will be joining us on an internship from the Master of Creative Arts Therapy (drama therapy) at the University of Melbourne. Georgie will be providing in person Drama Therapy sessions in the Ballarat area and telehealth sessions for anyone outside of this region. Georgie brings with her a wealth of experience through music, art, writing, improvisation, and hypnotherapy. This is a unique opportunity to work with drama therapy on your personal goals.

What is Drama Therapy?

Dramatherapy uses role, play, voicework, movement and storytelling to help clients explore and solve personal and social problems. Dramatherapy uses the healing aspects of drama and theatre to help clients explore and reflect on their feelings. Opportunity for change is offered through experimenting with different ways of thinking, feeling, and behaving. We may use puppets, masks, stories, or role-play. You will have the opportunity to develop your skills and awareness by trying alternate ways of being and learning more about yourself and others. This helps you to better understand social situations and deal with them more assertively or in alignment with how you want to be.

Dramatherapy provides a safe environment for fun while building self-awareness, new skills, and confidence. Dramatherapy is suitable for people of all ages and abilities. No specific interest in drama is necessary. Dramatherapy is suited to emotional, behavioural, or mental health challenges, learning or physical disabilities, chronic or life-limiting health conditions, neurological conditions, or physical illnesses.
